London has a lot of airports, most of which are ironically quite far out of Central London.
You’ll know of Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton, Stansted and City of London – but there’s another airport nearby that you probably don’t know about.
Not only is it much closer to Central London than somewhere like Luton, but you can get a helicopter transfer service from the airport right into the heart of London in just six minutes.
Seriously – we thought the Gatwick Express was quick!

What is this amazing airport you’ve never heard of? London Biggin Hill Airport, in Bromley.
Sadly, you can’t get a commercial flight there as it’s a ‘dedicated business aviation airport’.
This basically means if you have your own private jet you can land there and store it in a hanger (and even have it cleaned!) until you’ve finished off in London, but for us normal folk we’re going to have to accept we’re never flying in to it.
To get an idea of the clientele dealt with at the airport the website states in huge letters ‘we are dedicated to ensuring you have a safe, discreet and rapid tranfer through the airport’ – and there’s an Executive Handling team on offer to ‘take care of everything’.

The airport used to be an RAF base, and was famous for its role in the Battle of Britain during World War Two, when it served as one of the main bases protecting London.
Over the course of the war fighters based at Biggin Hill claimed 1,400 enemy aircraft, at the cost of the lives of 453 Biggin Hill based aircrew.
