The London boroughs where no one died of coronavirus in the past 5 weeks

More than 40 people died of coronavirus in London throughout August and the first week of September, latest figures show.

Data released by the Office for National Statistics on Tuesday (September 15) shows that 41 died of Covid-19 in the capital between August 1 and September 4.

More deaths occurred in Bexley in this period than in any other borough (five), while three people died in each of Barnet, Hackney and Southwark.

No deaths were recorded in Barking and Dagenham, City of London, Croydon, Havering, Kensington and Chelsea, Tower Hamlets and Wandsworth.

The latest data available shows deaths that occurred up to September 4. The figures for the rest of September will be published later this month.

In the five weeks prior to September 4, a total of 25 people died of coronavirus in hospitals across London, while 10 people died of the virus in care homes.

Four people died of Covid-19 at home, one person died in a hospice and one person died ‘elsewhere’.

Most of the deaths occurred in the seven days up to August 14, known as ‘week 33’. In this week, 18 people died of Covid-19.

In recent weeks the number of people dying from coronavirus has decreased, however, with just two deaths reported in the seven days up to September 4, known as week 36.

Overall, the figures revealed there were 78 deaths involving Covid-19 in England and Wales in the week up to September 4, 23 fewer than the 101 announced last week.

It is the lowest number of deaths recorded since the start of the pandemic at the beginning of March.

A total of 41,664 people have died in the UK within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test, including 6,178 in London, according to the Government Covid-19 dashboard.
