The celebrities who live among us in ‘really surprising’ parts of London

You think of two types of London – the London we all live in, and the London celebrities live in.

There’s plenty of famous actors and musicians who live around the capital, but mostly in Hampstead, Knightsbridge, Chelsea and other fancy areas of West London.

But you might be surprised to learn there’s also plenty of famous faces which you might just spot in your local Sainsbury’s.

Many celebrities live among us in ‘normal’ parts of London, such as Croydon, Bexley and Peckham.

Jacqueline Jossa – Bexley

The lovely Jacqueline Jossa lives in Bexleyheath with her husband Dan Osbourne and two daughters.

The pretty town has the best of both worlds, with lots of lovely greenery but great links to Central London – plus it’s much cheaper than many of areas of the capital.

David Tennant – Crouch End

This spot is a little bit different, picked by more quirky celebs looking for something less obvious and more arty.

David Tennant, Tamzin Outhwaite, James McAvoy, and Caitlin Moran all call the area home.

Fred Sirieix – Peckham

Fred Sirieix has lived in Peckham since he moved to the UK more than 20 years ago, so he must really like it there.

The First Date’s star once told The Resident he had bought there “because it was cheap” – something we seriously respect him for.

It’s one of London’s coolest neighbourhoods, with vibrant streets full of African food shops, indie boutiques and global eats. It’s also packed with cool bars and old-school pubs.

Wilfried Zaha – Purley

The Webb Estate feels worlds apart from the rest of Croydon, but is an ideal location for celebs wanting to travel into London, and is also near Gatwick Airport.

Understandably this hidden gated community has been dubbed ‘London’s best kept secret’.

Crystal Palace footballer Wilfried Zaha moved into a seven bedroom £2.5 million property in 2015, formerly owned by late former Eagles owner Ron Noades.

Also living on the estate is Francis Rossi, lead singer of Status Quo, who would reportedly often ride his motorbike around the estate’s roads when he was younger.

Laura Hamilton, best known for presenting Channel 4’s A Place in the Sun, and Sir Bernard Ingham, Lady Thatcher’s former press secretary, also call the Webb Estate their home.

In 2011, it was also reported Canadian singer Michael Buble brought a £3 million house on the estate.

Kate and Rio Ferdinand – Bromley

The former TOWIE star and footballer have announced they’re expecting their first child, which will no doubt get its own room in their Bromley mansion.

Bromley is one of those places so far out of Central London that it’s sometimes (wrongly) considered Kent. It’s a great place to live if you’re looking for a strong town feel while still being able to get into Central London.

Dizzee Rascal – Orpington

The legend that is Dizzee Rascal apparently lives in Orpington.

According to one local he frequents Keddles Gym, and unfortunately last year got into a traffic accident in the area, leading to a road rage clash where he reportedly shunted a woman’s car.

Graham Norton – Wapping

The ultimate chat show host, Graham Norton owns a place in Wapping is also said to have snapped up a flashy apartment in the One Blackfriars development.

Wapping is an up and coming place, with the redeveloped former docks area fitted with new residential towers and converted warehouses used a hip bars.

There’s loads of places to sit outside and eat, a marina at St. Katharine Docks, while Tobacco Dock hosts food festivals and other events.

Louis Theroux – Harlesden

So Louis might not technically live there any more, but he made his home in Harlesden for a long time so it must be good.

It’s got a great multicultural vibe, with a buzzing dining scene encompassing Caribbean, Brazilian, and Lebanese food. It’s also got a lovely park, Roundwood Park, full of colourful gardens and a wildlife area.
