Bromley barber’s pathetic excuse after he was caught cutting hair in Tier 4

A barber in Bromley was caught cutting hair despite being told to close under Tier 4 restrictions.

Police were called to the business in Bromley Road on Tuesday (December 22) after receiving reports customers were still getting their haircuts despite London being in Tier 4.

In Tier 4, which came into effect at 12.01am on Sunday (December 20), hairdressers and barbers have to shut, as do restaurants, bars and non-essential shops.

When officers arrived at the barbers in Bromley Road, a male customer was having his haircut.

Officers asked the owner, who was cutting the hair, what he was doing.

The owner replied that he “didn’t know he wasn’t allowed to cut hair in the new Tier”.

He was told he was in breach of the new rules and now faces being fined.

The Metropolitan Police have not released the name of the business.

Chief Inspector Julian Hagley, from the Met’s South Area BCU, said: “The rules and conditions for businesses in Tier 4 areas are clear and easily available on the internet.

“We will not be accepting the excuse that people didn’t know that London is in Tier 4.

“The rise in Covid infections in London affect us all, and we all need to play our part in following the rules and conditions that have been put in place to keep us, and our families all safe.”

According to latest data released by Public Health England, Bromley had an infection rate of 696.0 per 100,000 people in the seven days to December 19.

That’s a sharp increase from the week before, when the borough had 348.7 cases per 100,000 residents.
